"Hurdles to join a community" raises an interesting point. What metrics do we as marketers have in place to filter real fans from passive "likers". I think Facebook is well positioned to take all of that yummy "like" data and run with it (scary), but whether we'll ever see that on the Page admin side is questionable. My inititial thinking is for savvy FB marketers to create HTML driven tabs that allow fans to opt-into Fan-only programs. The kind of thing where you tell people, "Hey! I know you like us, but do you LOVE us? Sign up for our newsletter if you're a real fan." This gets at something I have been thinking about lately which is that you actually want there to be hurdles to join a community because it separates the people who were bored from those that are actually likely to help you achieve a business outcome.
